Dreams of Olympic glory

It’s a dream come true for a local hockey player. 22 year old Sarah Nurse is one of three Hamiltonians who has made the cut for the women’s Olympic hockey team.
For Sarah being an Olympian has been a dream of hers since she was 7 years old and last week, that dream became a reality.
“Coaches got up and shook my hand and said congratulations, you’re going to the Olympics. I was kind of in disbelief. It was really exciting.”
Nurse has spent the last 4 years playing for the University of Wisconsin. In her senior year of university she served as an alternate captain and was named an All-American, a big honour for amateur players.
She’s been in Hamilton for the holidays, but now it’s back to Calgary for Nurse where she will continue training for the 2018 Olympic games in South Korea. The team leaves in a month.
Athleticism runs in the family. Nurse’s cousin, Darnell Nurse plays for the Edmonton Oilers and his sister Kia Nurse is an Olympian herself, an unstoppable basketball powerhouse.
