Doug Ford to provide renewed agenda during throne speech

Ontario’s legislature will reconvene Monday morning with a new session and speech from the throne.
It is the first time Premier Doug Ford’s Progressive Conservatives will be hitting the reset button since the party came to power more than three years ago.
Ford will present a new agenda, though it will be delivered through Lt.-Gov. Elizabeth Dowdeswell.
The speech is expected to focus on the fight against COVID-19, as it is the government’s top priority.
The legislature was set to return on Sept. 13 but was prorogued until after the federal election took place on Sept. 20.
New Democratic Party Leader Andrea Horwath says she wants to see a plan to hire more nurses and personal support workers, reduce class sizes and support small businesses.
Ontario’s Liberal party’s priorities include safe classrooms, pushing the province to sign a child-care deal with the federal government, and paid sick days.
