Diplomatic talks are in the works following Russian President Vladimir Putin’s order to have nuclear forces on high alert.

While fighting continues in various parts of Ukraine, allies like Canada and members of the European Union slapped on more sanctions.

More destruction is left behind across Ukraine like Kharkiv and Donetsk as Russian troops are reportedly closing in the country’s interior including its’ capital.

Mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klistchko says, “we hope this night is quiet, we hope the Russians take the decision to move and go back to Russia, they have nothing to find here in our home.”

More explosions lit up the sky in Kyiv overnight and both sides are reporting deaths on the ground. Escalated tensions led to a call for nuclear forces by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Putin says, “top officials from NATO have allowed themselves to make aggressive comments about our country, thereby I order the minister of defense and chief general of staff to place the Russian army deterrent force on combat alert.”

The order was followed by Ukraine announcing a delegation will meet with Russian officials at the Belarus border for talks.

In an attempt to seek refuge thousands continue to flee Ukraine by vehicle and train and are met with major delays at borders. So far, at least 300,000 Ukrainians have entered into EU territory.

While many try to escape, protests continue to grow across the globe in support of Ukraine and its people including one at the Russian embassy in Berlin.

More sanctions on Russia’s economy rolled out. Canada’s transport minister says Russian planes are banned from Canadian airspace.

Canada is sending over extra help to Ukraine against Russian troops. Federal officials say they’ll deliver another 25 million dollars worth of helmets, armor, gas masks as well as cyber security help and airlift support.
