Local members of CUPE are meeting tonight to discuss what they feel is an infringement by the Ontario government on their right to collective bargaining.

CUPE Ontario president Fred Hahn says it understands the province is in a tough economic situation, but that it’s successfully negotiated through tough times before.

“The challenge we have is a provincial government that seems hell-bent on intruding into and mixing up the fine balance that’s there; those democratic rights that rely on bargaining collective agreements.”

CUPE represents more than 22,000 workers in Hamilton.
