Cross-contamination named likely cause of salmonella outbreak at Stoney Creek restaurant

Hamilton Public Health says cross-contamination is likely the source of the salmonella outbreak at an Upper Stoney Creek restaurant.

Public health says there are now 28 confirmed cases, 54 probable cases and nine hospitalizations tied to the outbreak at the Piper Arms restaurant on Stone Church Road.

The city says based on its initial investigation, the outbreak is “most consistent with cross-contamination” within the eatery.

In order to reopen, the restaurant must complete a facility-wide cleaning and sanitizing, and workers must complete an additional food handler safety course, followed by a city reinspection.
