Positive COVID-19 cases at Bennetto Elementary School

Three students at Hamilton’s Bennetto Elementary school have tested positive for COVID-19.
In a letter sent to the school’s community members, the school’s principal Sandra Rowell said that the students were last in the building on October 5th. Hamilton Public Health Services (HPHS) were able to notify the school of the positive results on October 10th.
HPHS has instructed that the students and staff members associated with the three students to not attend school for two weeks. They will start contacting each of those who were in close proximity to the students on Tuesday, October 13th.
Bennetto says they can confirm that no close contacts have been made through the child care program or students riding the bus.
“HWDSB and our school are working closely with Public Health to ensure appropriate measures are in place to prevent the spread of illness to other students or people in the school community,” said Rowell in the release. “Please continue to have your child attend school, unless of course you are a close contact and directed
otherwise by HPHS, and perform daily screening for COVID-19 symptoms.”
The school will follow the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board’s detailed cleaning and disinfecting protocol. They say students will only be admitted into a school space that requires this cleaning after they are confident it is safe to use.
