Community comes together to honor Barbara Church

On August 8th, Barbara Church was found dead in her home on Ottawa Street North after being fatally stabbed by her neighbor. When attempts to contact Church’s relatives were unsuccessful, her chosen family at 65 Ottawa Street North sprang into action. Through community donations and support from the staff, Church received the fond farewell they believed she deserved.

John Archer misses his friend Barbara and often sits in her spot, thinking about her.

Brandon Wheeler, the assistant manager at this Tim Hortons location, said Church would come in with a big smile, ask him how he was doing, and was like a grandma to all the kids who came in for a treat.

Church also made a lasting impression on the staff, some of whom referred to her as family.
