Collaros returns to practice

The Tiger-Cats held their first practice at Tim Hortons Field today. And just as significant as where they were practising, is who was there. Zach was back. Quarterback Zach Collaros, who was injured in week 2, returned to practice and it looks as if he might get the start in the Labour Day Classic, be it Monday, or Tuesday.
Wednesday’s historic first Ticat practice was closed to the public — and while some people tried pretty hard to sneak a peek — CHCH was the only media outlet, outside the Ticats’ own staff, to get a good look inside Tim Hortons Field. And what we saw was the return of number four — Zach Collaros.
Shortly before practice began, he was taken off the 6-game injured list, and, if his performance is any indication, Collaros should start the next game — whenever and wherever it may be: “I think it’s day to day still, but I was really excited to be out there. I really missed competing.”
A nasty hit by Edmonton’s Odell Willis in week two, knocked Collaros off the active roster. He says it was the first time he’d ever been diagnosed with a concussion, and up until about two weeks ago, he was still suffering headaches.
Getting back to work was perhaps the perfect birthday present for Collaros, who turned 26 today: “That’s the longest I’ve been without doing something since I can remember. I just really missed working out, breaking down film, because you’re supposed to do nothing. That was tough for me.”
Kent Austin wouldn’t commit to naming Collaros his starter this week, but he’s hopeful: “The most important thing now is that he has to practice hard and practice a lot to determine that. The good news is today we had an extra day, so we’ll see how he responds. Then we’ll work on a plan going forward with respect to preparing other guys.”
