Club Absinthe on Hess Street has had its lease terminated for non-payment of rent.
A notice posted on the door of the venue dated Jan. 9, says the tenant has until 5 p.m. on Thursday to remove everything inside.
The new location of Absinthe hasn’t even been open for a full year yet after moving from the last location at the corner of King William and Hughson streets.
The sudden closure of the venue has come to a shock to some people who have tickets for upcoming events being hosted at Club Absinthe.
The club is supposed to host a “Heated Rivalry” themed dance party on Feb. 6 and 7.
It’s been advertised in a joint post on the venues Instagram page since Jan. 8 but there’s no word on what might happen.
It appears as though some of the last events held at Absinthe were during the last week of December, according to photos on Instagram.
Links to ticket pages on the club’s page are now inactive.
One band who was scheduled to perform there on Jan. 25, posted on Facebook that their show is cancelled and will need to be rescheduled elsewhere.
CHCH News has reached out to the venue, landlord and organizers of any events being held there for comment.
