A child has died after being struck by a vehicle in the parking lot of a St. Catharines aquatic centre Thursday.
Niagara police say it happened at the St. Catharines Kiwanis Aquatics Centre on the corner of Carlton and Niagara streets.
Officers say the driver of the vehicle involved remained at the scene.
The aquatics centre and public library are closed Friday as police continue to investigate.
No charges have been laid at this time.
There is no word yet on the cause of the collision.

Niagara police are asking the public to avoid the area.
“If anyone must pick up anybody from the centre, they must use the far east end of the parking lot,” police write in a media release.
“The west end of the parking lot and surrounding park area will be closed for several hours to allow for investigation.”
Police’s collision reconstruction unit is now investigating.
