The CFL and the CFL Players’ Association reached a tentative deal late on Saturday night.
While the current collective bargaining agreement ended on May 29, the players still showed up to camp on a good faith basis while discussions had effectively broken down.
Earlier in the week, players on seven of the league’s nine teams had voted in favour of a strike. With strike votes set to take place in Calgary and Edmonton yesterday, the league and the PA held back door discussions starting Friday through an appointed mediator.
No real details have been revealed on the agreement and the deal is pending ratification by players and the league’s board of governors.
By the sounds of it, it appears the salary cap will jump to $5 million this season, up from $4.4 million in 2013 with mininum salaries up to $50,000 instead of $45,000.
The CFL issued a statement saying those votes will be scheduled as soon as possible.
The first CFL preseason game is set to take place tomorrow night with the regular season set to kick off June 26.
