In his state of the league address this morning in Toronto, CFL commissioner Mark Cohon said the financial future of the league looks promising, and that might be why he may be ready to spend a little more on the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Cohon says that both TV ratings and ticket sales have increased over the last year, and he attributes some of that success to the $1 million marketing boost that the league gave to the Hamilton and Toronto franchises this past season.

The commissioner is pleased that the Ticats have an agreement in place to play a majority of their home games at the University of Guelph next year, but he admits that owner Bob Young might need a few more dollars from the league to make it happen.

“what we see now is a bright light at the end of what once was a long tunnel. It’s really coming to fruition what that new stadium so we’ve agreed that we’re going to help Bob, we haven’t set the terms yet of what that will be but likely, things like with the new stadium at the University of Guelph, you have to build stands, there’s a lot of infrastructure, and we want to support him in that effort.”
