Close to 4,000 Catholic students set out on a 8 kilometre pilgrimage on Sunday.

Students and staff from the Hamilton Wentworth Catholic District School Board gathered to walk in the 11th annual pilgrimage in support of third world developmental projects.

In the past 11 years the board has raised half a million dollars for charities in Uganda, Haiti, the Dominican Republic and Sri Lanka.

The program leader for religion and family life, Paul Beaudette, says the pilgrimage is as much about education as it is fundraising.

The pilgrimage ended at St. Anthony Daniel Catholic Elementary School.

The goal was to raise $40,000 dollars.
