Carmen’s co-founder, Morris Mercanti, dead at 61

The co-founder of Carmen’s Banquet Centre in Hamilton has died. Morris Mercanti was 61.

He had a number of health problems but his family says he was a fighter. Morris and his brothers Peter and Sam were named to Hamilton’s Gallery of Distinction in November 2012.

Visitation will be held at Hamilton’s Bay Gardens Funeral Home on Sunday from 1 to 5 pm, and Monday from 4 to 7 pm.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King on Tuesday; the time is yet to be announced.

Entombment will take place at Holy Sepulchure Cemetery in Aldershot.
