Canadian Tire reportedly bidding on Hudson’s Bay Company brand, IP rights

There is a familiar brand name that’s apparently making a bid on the Hudson’s Bay Company’s intellectual property.
Sources say one of Canada’s most iconic retailers Canadian Tire, is interested in saving another one of Canada’s most iconic brands, Hudson’s Bay.
Retail analyst Bruce Winder says if Canadian Tire is the successful bidder for the Bay’s intellectual property, that means we might see Bay branded products, like the Hudson’s Bay famous stripes, in Canadian Tire stores.
“Blankets can come in many styles but the most iconic, the most classic is called the multi stripe and its what I’ve got here” said Winder.
Shoppers here at this Canadian Tire in Waterdown think, its a great idea.
“I think its part of Canada’s history so it would be nice if someone had the money to keep it going for us” one person said.
“I think its a great idea, as long as some part of Hudson’s Bay is still alive. It would be great to still have their line. I think it’s historic to Canada and its nice to see that some other company would be able to continue the line” another person said.
Winder says a successful bid might also mean that Canadian Tire would have the rights to the Zellers brand too, since that’s under Hudson’s Bay’s umbrella but the details of the actual bid, and what it includes is not public.
