Premier Danielle Smith promises referendum on immigration into Alberta

Premier Danielle Smith has promised to hold a referendum on the matter, that will probe Albertans on whether or not the province should limit the number of international students, temporary foreign workers, and asylum seekers it takes. It’s proving to be a charged topic, Smith is selling the idea as a matter of sustainability, saying Ottawa’s desires are far from what Alberta can realistically accommodate in the face of a looming deficit amid low energy prices.
