Canadian Census of Population forms due May 12

If you haven’t filled out your household’s 2026 Canadian census questionnaire yet, this is your reminder to submit it.

May 12 is the deadline to submit the questionnaire that provides a snapshot of Canada’s population. Every household should have received their census invitation letters in the mail last week.

In it is a unique 16-digit access code to fill out the census online. The information helps to plan programs, services and allocate funding to communities across the country.

According to Statistics Canada, the Census of Population “helps paint a statistical portrait of Canada’s diverse population and the places where we live by collecting demographic, social and economic information from households across Canada.”

Canadians could face a fine of up to $500 for not completing the form.

The next census will take place in 2031. This year’s is Canada’s 24th national census.
