Canadian adventurist, athlete and explorer Don Starkell has died.

In 1980, Starkell decided to give his boys an adventure they’d never forget, so they went on a 19,000 kilometre canoe trip from Winnipeg to the Amazon.

A documentary on that trip is nearly complete.

The Starkells were inducted into the Guinness Book of Records for the world’s longest canoe trip.

Starkell was 79.
