Canada Post pauses mail deliveries in Ontario following snowstorm

Canada Post says it is suspending mail delivery and collection services across Ontario Thursday due to inclement weather and snow.

The Crown corporation posted on Facebook at around noon that it issued a “red delivery service alert” for the province of Ontario after an overnight snowstorm blanketed parts of the province in 15 to 40 centimetres of snow.

According to the mail delivery company, the alert means that they are suspending delivery for the day and are not sending their delivery agents out, or recalling them.

There will also be no regular mail collection, with plans to resume once conditions improve and it is safe to do so.

“The safety of our employees is our number one priority,” the social media post reads.

Canada Post says they are encouraging customers to clear the snow and ice from their walkways, stairs and driveways to ensure safe access to the front door, for both visitors and their mail carriers when service resumes.
