Cabinet Shuffle

Two years into her term and running a close second behind the Progressive Conservatives in a recent forum research poll, Premier Kathleen Wynne shuffled her cabinet today. The cabinet grew from 27 to 30 ministers and now features a group that’s made up of 40% women.

The Liberals applauded their revised cabinet which includes 7 new ministers, 5 of whom are women. With St.Catharines MPP Jim Bradley and Hamilton MPP Ted McMeekin stepping down, Halton MPP Indira Naydoo-Harris and Burlington MPP Eleanor McMahon will now join Oakville’s Kevin Flynn as the voices of the greater Hamilton Halton area.

While Mitzie Hunter’s big promotion from Junior Minister to Minister of Education is significant, you won’t find any women behind the province’s biggest files.

Glenn Thibeault, who defected from the NDP’s to join to Liberals will replace Bob Chiarelli as Energy Minister. The 74-year old Chiarelli will now be the Minister of Infrastructure. While Wynne and company seemed excited for the facelift, the opposition didn’t notice much change.
