It’s one of the few competitions where first place isn’t exactly a winner, and yet year after year, Hamilton continues to come out on top.
CAA’s Worst Road campaign kicked off Tuesday, and with it, an opportunity to put your community’s nastiest thoroughfare in the spotlight.
The roadside assistance company says that potholes, congestion, poor road signs, and other safety concerns all contribute to determining what makes a road bad, but winning the title of “worst road” can help illicit change.

“Since 2003, CAA’s annual Worst Roads campaign has influenced change,” the company says. “Repaving and repair work has been done on many of the roads on Ontario’s Worst Roads list, with more to come.”
Between March 27 and April 19, the company will be accepting nominations on its website.
You’ll need to provide a few notes on your submission, including photos and a brief explanation of why it’s deserving of the title.
Once the nomination period is closed, CAA will tally up the submissions and unveil its 2024 list of Worst Roads in Ontario.
Last year, Hamilton’s Barton Street East took home the prestigious award for the second time in a row, but it isn’t just the Barton Street that made the list.
Burlington Street has been a repeat offender that’s found it’s way onto the list, time and time again — and last year an unexpected name joined it: Aberdeen Avenue.

Although a surprise to some, those who drive the road every day might agree.
The roadway serves as a vital artery with convenient access to Highway 403, making it a bustling route that sees a lot of use.
The same can be said about Burlington Street, which sees heavy traffic flowing in and out of the city’s industrial sector and connects with the Queen Elizabeth Highway.
Only time will tell — and may the worst road win!
