Burlington votes to move forward with King Road development

A Burlington city council committee has voted to move forward with an expanded plan for a new community development at 1200 King Rd.

The expanded plan could include an arena and aquatics centre.

But the vote at the Committee of the Whole meeting doesn’t necessarily approve the amenities. Rather, it asks city staff to look into the business case and funding opportunities for a 5,000 to 7,000 seat arena and attached community centre in the development.

Burlington estimates the project will cost $300 million.

With Tuesday’s approval, the city will start public consultation and exploring partnerships.

They expect to have all information prepared so that council can approve or reject it by early 2027.

Yesterday, the organization behind Hamilton’s TD Coliseum – Oak View Group – said they would be interested in the project.
