Burlington road closures during this year’s Around the Bay Road Race

The City of Burlington is warning residents of road closures and lane restrictions ahead of the 132nd Around the Bay Road Race, which takes place on April 12.

The start date of the race shifted from its traditional start on the last Sunday in March, to avoid conflicting with the back-to-back weekends of the Junos Awards ceremony and Easter.

The historic “Bay Race” will include thousands of runners participating in one of several races, including the 5K and 15K races, and the classic 30K course.

Here are a few road closures residents need to watch out for that Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to around 2 p.m.

The QEW Toronto-bound exit ramp to Northshore Boulevard East will be closed, with a detour available through Fairview Street.

The Northshore Boulevard East Toronto-bound entry ramp to the QEW will similarly be closed, with a detour through Fairview Street.

On Northshore Boulevard from the QEW ramps to Plains Road will see the eastbound lane closed, the westbound lane open for emergency vehicles and resident access only, and no through traffic allowed.

King Road from Plains Road East to Northshore Boulevard East will only allow local traffic, with no access past Ellengale Road to Northshore Boulevard.

Plains Road West from Spring Gardens Road to Northshore Boulevard West will see one eastbound lane closed, but maintain two-way traffic.

On Spring Gardens Road from Valley Inn Road bridge to Plains Road West, the eastbound lane will be closed, and the westbound lane will remain open for only emergency vehicles and resident access.

Residents are urged to use extreme caution for pedestrian traffic and runners when crossing streets.

Halton Regional Police Service will be supervising the roads and temporary parking restrictions will be clearly posted, and enforced.

Commuters and passengers using Burlington Transit will see Routes 1 and 4 delayed during the race, and Hamilton’s HSR Parkdale route 11 bus will detour through the QEW and Maple Avenue to downtown Burlington on John Street.
