Burlington OPP seize $700,000 worth of illegal tobacco

Members of Burlington OPP seized numerous cases of contraband tobacco totalling approximately $700,000.
Police stopped a truck in the area of Highway 403 and Aberdeen Ave. on Thursday.
Some 60 cases of illegal goods were discovered in the truck as a result of a Ministry of Finance investigation.
Police say the contraband tobacco is equal to a street value of $300,000 and a 30-year-old man from Oakville is charged.
The Ontario Convenience Store Association says 30 to 35 per cent of all cigarettes in Ontario are contraband and believe more enforcement and resources need to be implemented.

The Burlington OPP seized approximately $400,000 worth of contraband tobacco just one day prior as well.
A 55-year-old driver from Kingston was charged with trafficking contraband tobacco.
