Members of Burlington-based charity, Speroway have travelled to Haiti on a humanitarian mission.

Ken Forbes, president of Speroway, and a colleague landed in Haiti yesterday, where they’re distributing food to the less fortunate.

Forbes has been coming to Haiti for 25 years but says things have gotten much worse. He says gangs have taken over most major cities and control the ports and major highways; fuel is almost impossible to get, and food is very expensive for the average person.

“We saw some children eating ashes out of a fire just to put something in their stomachs, so it’s a dire situation right now,” Forbes said.

Forbes says Speroway will continue to help people in Haiti, as long as people continue to support the program. If you’d like to make a donation you can visit the Speroway website or call 1-289-861-1346.
