Bulldogs add depth to blue line with Nicolas Mattinen

The Hamilton Bulldogs have acquired defenceman Nicolas Mattinen.

Mattinen is a Maple Leafs prospect, who comes to the Bulldogs from the Flint Firebirds.

“Nicolas is a player we have coveted and has the skill set that fits perfectly with our defence core,” said Bulldogs President and GM Steve Staios.

“He has shown some offensive upside with the Firebirds while also taking on more responsibility in all situations.”

The 19-year-old from Ottawa was the 6th round pick for the Leafs in the 2016 NHL Draft.

He has five goals and 17 assists with the Firebirds this season.

The Bulldogs sent defenceman Riley McCourt to Flint.

Mattinen is expected to be in the lineup Friday, when the Bulldogs play the Knights in London.
