Brantford police arrest 2 after industrial break-in, copper theft

Police have arrested a man and woman from Brantford after an industrial break-in that led to the theft of copper wire.

On March 21 at approximately 12:30 a.m., officers received information regarding a group of individuals who had broken into a fenced and locked compound at an industrial property near the intersection of Colborne Street West and Canning Street.

Authorities attended the scene with Police Service Dog (PSD) Mack and searched the property.

During the search, officers noticed that copper wiring had been stripped from buildings on site.

Suspects were soon located within the compound before they fled on foot. Following a quick chase, PSD Mack successfully tracked the suspects hiding under a portable trailer office.

During the arrest, a man uttered threats to stab and kill the police dog. The man and woman were found to be in possession of copper wire and break-in instruments.

As a result of the investigation, a 46-year-old Brantford man has been charged with the following offences:

  • Break and Enter a Place – Commit Indictable Offence
  • Possession of Break-In Instruments
  • Resist Arrest
  • Uttering Threats

A 48-year-old Brantford woman has been charged the following offences:

  • Break and Enter a Place – Commit Indictable Offence
  • Possession of Break-In Instruments
  • Resist Arrest
  • Theft Under $5,000
