Premier Doug Ford was in Brantford to announce a new state-of-the-art facility that will produce cans for food packaging.

Massily North America said it plans to invest $85 million to sustain 228 existing jobs and create 50 new, good-paying manufacturing jobs.

In a release, Ford said bringing new production lines back to Ontario will reshore critical supply chains and remove reliance on imported steel packaging.

“Today’s investment is great news for workers and families in Brantford and across Ontario and will support good-paying jobs throughout our manufacturing supply chain,” Ford said. “Our government will continue to cut taxes and red tape to attract investment and create good-paying jobs as we build the strongest, most resilient and most competitive economy in all the G7.”

Massilly’s investment is a strong vote of confidence in Ontario as a stable economy and one of the most competitive jurisdictions for manufacturers to invest, create jobs and do business.

By expanding their operations to include coil cutting and three-piece can production lines, Massilly will ensure consumer goods sold across Canada can leverage Canadian steel, bolstering Ontario’s end-to-end supply chain and ensuring the province’s key industries are self-reliant and resilient in the face of geopolitical volatility.

The province is providing $5 million in funding through the Ontario Together Trade Fund (OTTF).

“Our government is continuing to introduce strategic initiatives, dedicated to ensuring Ontario workers and businesses are equipped with the tools they need to adapt in the face of external pressures,” said Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development.  “Through the OTTF, we are proud to support Massilly in this next phase of growth and look forward to seeing their three-piece cans and steel coils solidify Ontario’s position as a manufacturing powerhouse.”
