Brantford man wanted in hatchet assault facing drug, weapon charges

Brantford police say a 41-year-old man is facing weapon and drug charges after allegedly being involved in a hatchet assault.

On July 15 at approximately 5:15 p.m., authorities were conducting a foot patrol near Queen and Dalhousie streets when they identified a man who had an active warrant for his arrest.

The man was then arrested and searched, resulting in authorities finding crystal methamphetamine and fentanyl in his possession.

According to investigators, the man had a warrant out for his arrest in relation to an assault that occurred around 8:45 p.m. July 14 near Colborne Street and Fordview Drive. The man allegedly assaulted another man with the blunt end of a hatchet.

Officers say the victim received minor physical injuries. They add that the two men knew each other.

As a result, the 41-year-old Brantford man stands charged with the following offences:

• Possession of a controlled substance (two counts)
• Assault with a weapon
• Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
• Disobey court order
