Brantford 403 reopened after excavator boom arm hits bridge

Westbound lanes of Highway 403 in Brantford were closed for several hours Monday after a crash at Wayne Gretzky Parkway.

Police say the crash was caused by a transport truck carrying an excavator, which had its boom arm raised. The boom arm hit the bottom of the highway bridge, causing debris to scatter across the road.

Another vehicle was struck by debris, resulting in a broken windshield.

First responders did not report any injuries.

Investigators have charged the driver of the transport truck with driving under suspension, and further charges are pending from the Commercial Motor Vehicle Inspector.

Highway 403 has since reopened, but officers say there is only one lane headed north and south on Wayne Gretzky Parkway.

The Ministry of Transportation has taken over the investigation and will be assessing the damage.

Commuters can expect slower traffic in the area.
