The armoured car guard who admitted to shooting and killing three co-workers and injuring a fourth, has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 40 years.

An Edmonton judge called Travis Baumgartner a coward and cold-blooded killer. He shot his fellow guards during a routine night shift reloading bank machines at the University of Alberta in June of 2012. The 22-year old pled guilty on Monday to one count of first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder, and an attempted murder charge. The judge used a federal law passed in 2011 that allows consecutive parole terms in cases involving multiple murders.
