Avengers: Age of Ultron is the sequel to the 2012 blockbuster ensemble film The Avengers with director Joss Whedon returning to the helm. The list of stars appearing in this one is massive as the Marvel universe comes together for the second time: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Cobie Smulders, James Spader, Samuel L. Jackson, and many more.
When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the mysterious Ultron emerges, the team must reassemble in order to stop the terrifying technological villain hell-bent on human extinction. Along the way, they confront two mysterious and powerful newcomers, Wanda Maximoff and Pietro Maximoff, as well as an old friend in a new form, named The Vision.
Whedon had the unenviable task of following up his own mega hit and juggling more characters and plot lines. So where do you start? “The first thing you have to do if you’re looking at an Avengers sequel is figure out what you’re going to do with all of these characters,” he explains. “In this film, I’ve got a lot more characters! The Avengers are a really dysfunctional team, and I liked the idea of seeing them actually act as a team and how it shows how much they shouldn’t be a team.”
