Arrest made surrounding murder of Pelham’s Earl Clapp

Niagara Regional Police have arrested and charged Matthew MacInnes of Wellandport for the second degree murder of Pelham’s Earl Clapp.

Clapp was found and then pronounced on the morning of October 2nd. Police were called to the intersection of Highway 20 and Cream Street just before 3:00 a.m. where they found the 74-year-old. They say he was trying stop the theft of one of the trailers on his property. That is when he was hit by the fleeing vehicle and dragged nearly one kilometre to the intersection.

An obituary for Clapp has been published online.

MacInnis was arrested yesterday around 5:00 p.m. He has been held in custody, pending bail hearing that is taking place today.
