A stretch of highway 6 in Glanbrook has been a deadly one recently. In the last 5 years alone,  5 people have been killed between Chippewa Road, and the highway 6 by-pass.

Residents in the area are pleading with the province to fix the dangerous problem.

A crash in January this year happened right in front of Mike Whaling’s storage business on highway 6 south. 2 men were killed.

Another crash from 2013 also happened between Chippewa Road and the highway 6 by-pass. 2 people were killed in that crash.

Flowers are a reminder of the carnage that has happened on this stretch of road.

“It’s unsafe right now, it’s about time. We’ve lost 5-6 really good people in our community, and we’re going to lose more. We have to put a stop to it.” says Whaling.

His neighbor Panfilo Lucente was rear-ended in 2007. He walked away from the crash, but it ended his construction career. He’s been on disability ever since.

Area residents have asked conservative MPP Tim Hudak to help them make changes to the stretch of highway.

“We want to see the turning lane turning north full length from Chippewa all the way to the 6 turnoff, and the speed dropped to minimum 60.”

“It’s a good thing more people are choosing to live in our area, but it adds more pressure to our area. It’s difficult to make a left turn safely, so let’s expand the highway, add lights and save lives.” says Hudak.

Hudak says he’ll lobby the ministry of transportation for the changes.
