Alcohol contributes to weekend fatalities

Police say a crash in Kitchener that killed a toddler, and a deadly snowmobile crash in Flamborough were both alcohol related.

A 17-month-old girl from Stratford died, and her 36-year old mother is in critical condition in Hamilton General Hospital after their car was hit from behind by a cube van. The 38-year old father wasn’t seriously hurt. The driver of the cube van, 53-year old Hugh Brake of Kitchener, faces eight charges including impaired driving causing death and marijuana possession. Police say speed and alcohol were factors in the death of a 36 year old man, whose snowmobile crashed near Westover Road in Flamborough on Saturday.
