Air Canada flight attendants enter final day to vote for strike mandate

Flight attendants with Air Canada are entering the final day to vote for whether or not they will give their union a strike mandate.

Contract negotiations started seven months ago and the vote began July 28 after no deal could be reached.

The main issue has to do with unpaid work. Employees are concerned with when their pay starts and ends.

Currently, pay starts when boarding doors are shut and ends when they re-open on arrival.

If the more than 10,000 employees decide to strike, the 72-hour strike notice could not be issued until Aug. 16.

A strike would cause significant disruptions to flights with the airline.
