It has been a fixture at Niagara Falls for a century, giving visitors a bird’s eye view of the gorge and the Niagara Whirlpool. Suspended over 6 cables, the Aero Car gives riders an unobstructed view of the Niagara river. The car travels almost one kilometre, stretching almost the entire width of the gorge and takes about 10 minutes to complete.
About 1400 visitors ride the Aero Car a day, which works out about 125 000 riders a year. The cable car gets serviced every 5 years and while it has undergone some modifications, very little has changed.
Up until the 60’s the attraction was called the Niagara Spanish Aero Car. It was designed by renowned Spanish architect Leonardo Torres Quevedo and next week members of his family will fly in from Spain to attend a ceremony to celebrate the milestone.
