911 texting

Toronto is looking at a text messaging option for people contacting 911 operators.

Although many places in Canada, including Toronto, offer emergency texting for people with hearing or speech impairments, there is no 911 texting available for the general public.

Councillor Norm Kelly says cities should use technology to benefit all its residents.

More than 650 emergency call centres in the United States currently offer 911 texting.
