9 charged, 1 man wanted in Mississauga nightclub kidnapping

Peel police have charged nine people, and another man is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant, after an alleged kidnapping of a woman from a Mississauga nightclub back in August.
Investigators say a Toronto woman attended a nightclub in the area of Britannia Road East and Dixie Road in Mississauga shortly before 9 p.m. on Aug. 24 when she was allegedly kidnapped and forced into a stolen vehicle and held for 48 hours.
Police say she was taken to several locations in Owen sound, Ont., before being released in the Toronto area. Officers say the victim was not physically injured.
Officers have issued a Canada-wide warrant for Karim Khairy, 22, of Mississauga for kidnapping in connection to this investigation.
The following suspects appeared in a Brampton courtroom:
- Mohammed Habibnia, 28, from Newmarket — charged with kidnapping, possession of property obtained by crime (x2);
- Mohamed Khairy, 20, from Mississauga — charged with kidnapping;
- Daniel Gonthcharov, 22, from Concord — charged with kidnapping, possession of weapon for dangerous purpose and possession for the purpose of trafficking.
- Mohamad Halimi, 22, from Mississauga — charged with kidnapping, possession of a prohibited device or ammunition knowing it’s possession is unauthorized (x2) and possession for the purpose of trafficking;
- Aaron Marshall, 35, with no fixed address — charged with kidnapping and forcible confinement. At the time of the offence, Aaron Marshall was a federal parolee who was wanted for being unlawfully at large;
- Jessica Proctor, 31, from Meaford — charged with kidnapping and forcible confinement;
- Tayshawn Atkins, 19, from Oakville — charged with kidnapping;
- Darren McCann, 46, from Owen Sound — charged with kidnapping.
Mohammed Salih, 26, from Mississauga has been charged with accessory after the fact to commit an indictable offence.
Peel police uncovered nearly $240,000 worth of drugs and two extended handgun magazines after carrying out several search warrants at homes and vehicles in Owen Sound, Ont., and throughout the GTA.
