67-year-old charged in Haldimand County for contraband tobacco

Haldimand County OPP have charged a 67-year-old driver from Stouffville, Ont. for contraband tobacco.

On Tuesday, at around 6:30 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on Argyle Street South and observed several boxes of suspected illegal cigarettes in plain sight inside the vehicle.

An on-scene investigation found the driver to be in possession of contraband cigarettes in violation of the Tobacco Tax Act.

The driver was charged with the possession of unmarked cigarettes and unmarked cigarettes for sale.

Investigators say all boxes of illegal cigarettes were seized and secured as evidence.

The accused was released from the scene with a court appearance date of Aug. 14 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Haldimand.
