Ontario Provincial Police say a barn fire has caused $1.5 million in damages and claimed the lives of hundreds of animals.

Emergency crews were called to the blaze at a barn on Sideroad 2 East in Wellington County around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Police say the barn was fully engulfed in flames, with large plumes of black smoke filling the air.

Roughly 250 goats, 20 rabbits and two horses were killed in the fire.

The Wellington North Fire Services is investigating and the Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office has been contacted.
