23-year-old Burlington man charged in hit and run

A man who allegedly fled the scene of a hit and run on Friday has been identified as 23-year-old Stephen Balon.

The driver allegedly hit a teen cyclist with his vehicle while turning left at the intersection of Appleby Line and Taywood Drive in Burlington. Police say Balon drove away from the scene and later returned to the intersection where he was arrested for failing to stop at the scene of a crash and causing bodily harm.

The teen suffered critical but non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Oakville Hospital and later airlifted to Sick Kids Hospital. His status has been upgraded to stable.

Balon is expected to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Milton on Dec. 7.
