The City of Burlington announced Tuesday that it will invest nearly $17 million into an improved and “greener” public transit.

The funding will be coming from all three levels of government and will be used to buy 15 new conventional, hybrid, and electric buses to replace the aging ones.

Four of the buses will be electric as part of a pilot project.

Six more specialized transit vehicles will be added to support door-to-door services for people with specific needs.

The addition of new buses to Burlington’s fleet is also expected to increase services, improving ride frequencies to 15 to 20 minutes.

Digital signage at bus stops will also be updated to show real-time schedules.
