1005 Members to be briefed on U.S. Steel offer

Locked out U.S. Steel Canada workers in Hamilton will find out more tonight about the latest offer from the company.

Negotiators for United Steelworkers union local 1005 will present a report so members can consider their options.

They stress the offer is “substantially the same” as one presented before they were locked out last November. That includes “demands to give up indexing of pensions” and permitting new hires to go into a defined contribution plan instead of being part of the defined benefit plan.
