A 10-year-old Ryder Mandryk not only lobbied the local government but also raised over $30,000 from the Norfolk County community. The goal was to paint a pride crosswalk in her hometown, and earlier this week, that came to fruition.

Ryder had the idea for a crosswalk 2 years ago after seeing one get vandalized in nearby Paris. So she appeared before Norfolk County Council to request an investment in a rainbow crosswalk in downtown Simcoe.

Council supported the idea, but the funds had to be raised by the community. So with help from some family and friends who organized efforts, so far Ryder has raised over $30,000.

This crosswalk cost $15,000, so with the leftover from the $30,000 donated, the next goal is to put one up in Port Dover.
