The film follows the Chinese artist while he deals with his government’s false tax evasion charges. The film was screened at this year’s Hot Docs Festival, where Angie Driscoll called it “…a humanizing portrait of a fearless provocateur willing to end slavery and silence in China by any artistic means necessary.”

Ai Weiwei: The Fake Case is playing at the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema from May 16 – 22. You can see our interview with the film’s director Andreas Johnsen here. The film is rated PG.
