Waxman surrenders at Barton jail

A former Hamilton businessman has turned himself into police and will be serving an eight-year sentence for fraud. Robert Waxman, the past president of Philip Services Corp’s metal group was convicted of setting up fraudulent copper trades in the 1990’s.

Waxman cheated his former employer out of almost $18 million. He went to the Barton Street Jail yesterday and surrendered, right before his appeal fell through.

He was convicted of six counts of fraud and faces a restitution order of just under $18 million. He is currently being held at Barton Street until his transfer to a maximum security prison in Bath.

Waxman will be eligible for parole in 2 and a half years.
