Woman hit by school bus

A woman is fighting for her life after being hit by a school bus late this afternoon.

Police say she was crossing Stone Church Rd between Upper Ottawa and Turnbridge Crescent, in the path of an oncoming bus.

The driver slammed on the brakes, but the vehicle fishtailed and hit the woman, knocking her on to the pavement where she hit her head.

She was rushed to hospital and into surgery.

The bus driver is described as OK but shaken up.

No children were on the bus at the time.

The reconstruction crew was on the scene well into the evening.
