Pumpkin Sunday at Westfield Heritage Village

It is only 6 days until Halloween and today the Westfield Heritage Village celebrated all things pumpkin.

There were all kinds of pumpkin games, like pumpkin races and a pumpkin ring toss. There were crafts and other fun family activities. Then of course some pumpkin treats like homemade pumpkin pie baked the old fashioned way. And there were some things that you might not think to do with a pumpkin.

“You’ve probably never tried pumpkin bowling. That’s an interesting sport. We’ve had a few people excell at that. We’ve also got some really interesting things being cooked in the Lockhart farmstead and they’re actually making a savoury pumpkin dish, meat stuffed pumpkin, which I’m waiting to try that at the end of the day. It should be really interesting.” said Program Coordinator Lisa Hunter.

Visitors got to take a pumpkin home with them in exchange for a food donation to either carve into a jack- o’lantern, or to try to recreate one of the tasty treats they learned how to make today.

Pumpkin sunday wrapped up at 4 but there’s still more Halloween fun to be had. Next weekend the village will be open on Friday night and Halloween night on Saturday for the the 2nd annual Witches’ and Warlocks’ convention. You can go dressed in your witchy best and join the Halloween fun.
