One of the region’s most wanted men, Abdullahi Mohamoud is back in police custody today.

Police had been searching for the 22 year-old since he skipped bail after he was charged in a hit-and-run gas-and-dash that ended in death.

In May of 2011 when 62-year-old Hashem Atifeh Rad was working at a gas station in Mississauga when a man driving a gold car was seen covering up his license plates shortly before pulling into the station.

While there, he pumped some gas and attempted to flee without paying.

Rad tried to confront the driver about the theft, but was struck by the vehicle and fatally injured as it left the scene.

Police eventually arrested Mohamoud in October of 2011. He was charged with failing to remain and criminal negligence causing death, but fled Ontario before his first court appearance.

Acting on a tip and following a 5 month investigation, RCMP in Fort McMurray, Alberta have now arrested Mohamoud.

Police say he will be prosecuted for charges out west before being flown back to Ontario.
